Ash looking for an ‘extraordinary’ season

Sports Reporter

Former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful is in search of an ‘extraordinary’ season in the coming National Cricket League (NCL), knowing that something so special only could give him a chance to revive his career with the national team again.

As his ban to play the International cricket was lifted on August 13, his aspiration to comeback in the national got a massive setback when chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that Ashraful’s place in the current set up is almost uncertain given the number of young players have already been in competition to grab several places.

He also said that the youngest Test centurion needs to prove him through some extraordinary performances which fuelled Ashraful to take the challenge.

“I know I have to do something extraordinary if I want to get a place in the national team again,” said Ashraful. “I had scored five centuries with three in a row in the Dhaka Premier League last year, which was a record in country’s cricket history. That sort of performance I need to do regularly. There is NCL coming which is a chance for me to force my case stronger. I need to convert my start regularly. If I do 100, I need to make it 150 and I know I have to do it consistently to convince the team management.” A beep Test was arranged for the Dhaka Metro and Dhaka Division players as the NCL is set to start in October. As a player of Dhaka Metro Ashraful also attended in the beep test (a test to judge players’ fitness) and scored 11.4 out of 20, which was joint highest amongst the players who attended to the test.

“You know I am food-savvy person but for the sake of my cricket I have been maintaining a proper diet for the last two or three years,” he added.

“I believe I am still able to do something different. I have scored 11.4 in Beep Test which is almost an International level score. I believe I can do more improvement as the time progresses.”
