8 held over teenage boy murder   

Detectives in a drive arrested eight people from different areas of the capital on Saturday night in connection with the murder of a teenage boy in Dakhshin Khan area.

Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, said that a team of North DB police conducted drives in different areas and arrested them. The details about the arrest will be revealed at a press briefing at DMP media centre. 17-year-old boy Mehedi, hailing from Patuakhali, came to visit his friend’s residence in the area. Mehedi and his friend had an altercation with some local adolescents over a trifling matter. Later, Mehedi was beaten dead during a clash over the issue on August 31.

Turkish citizen electrocuted

A Turkish man was killed after being electrocuted in Gulshan on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Ayhan Ozbek, 42. He was a managing director of Astek Technology in Baridhara. His office staff took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead around 10 pm, source said.

Ozbek was electrocuted while operating a machine of the technology on the sixth floor of the building, said Advocate Shakhawat Hossain, resident of the area.

Female RMG worker found dead   

Police recovered the body a female RMG worker from Nishchintapur area in Ashulia on Saturday night. The name of the deceased, aged around 25, could not known yet. Sheikh Rezaul Haque Dipu, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said smelling bad odour neighbours entered the house of the woman and found her dead. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.

Police suspected that the victim's husband fled the house after strangulating his wife several days ago.

Man killed being hit by bus   

A man was killed being hit by a bus on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bathuli area of Dhamrai upazila on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Dinesh Chandra Sutradhar, 45, a resident of Bhogobanpur village in Manikganj Sadar upazila.

Alamgir Hossain, sub-inspector of Golra Highway police station, said the Paturia-bound ‘Green Bangla’ bus hit Dinesh around 8pm while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot. Police seized the bus.

Student drowns in Dhanmondi Lake

An English medium student drowned at Dhanmondi lake of the capital on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Mosharraf Khandakar Emi, 17, daughter of Liakat Hossian Litu, and an “A” level student of Europe Standard School. She was a resident of Kaderabad area of Mohammadpur.

Eye-witness Abdul Ali said, “I was sitting beside the lake around 11 pm and suddenly got a sound in the water. We saw someone jumped into water. Then, we rescued her and took to Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital.”
