Sabbir faces six-month int’l ban

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Disciplinary Committee on Saturday recommended a six-month suspension on right-handed batsman Sabbir Rahman Rumman from international cricket for abusing a fan on social media. But his overall disciplinary breaches have been considered for his current disciplinary action.

The suspension will come into effect after getting the approval of the BCB President Nazmul Hassan Papon from tomorrow (Sunday). BCB director and its disciplinary committee member I H Mollick disclosed all to media after holding a closed-door hearting at the Sher-e-Bangla national Cricket Stadium in Mirpur yesterday. “Today we had two hearing on disciplinary issues. It’s our recommendations what we will send to our board president. We have recommended a six-month suspension on Sabbir Rahman Rumman from international cricket,” said IH Mollick.

“For his overall activities, he was given a stark warning also. His new punishment was that he will not be considered for international cricket for the next six-month, meaning that he will miss the ensuing Asia Cup along with the next back-to-back home series against Zimbabwe and West Indies,” Mollick told reporters.

“This recommendation will be sent to the board president. It will be come into effect from tomorrow after it got the nod of the president,” he added.

He was flunked by BCB director and its disciplinary committee vice-chairman, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury and disciplinary committee secretary advocate Mujibur Rahman on the occasion.  Mollick told in responded to a media query that Sabbir has been called for his recent facebook incident, nothing else.  He was given different types of punishments for his previous offence. It has been given for his new offence.

Rumman was found accountable for intimidating a facebook user just after Bangladesh lost the second match of the three-match ODI series against the hosts West Indies on July 27 that led the user to flak the batsman in a facebook post.

Mollick informed that Sabbir was repentant for his activities and pleaded not to repeat it in future. “Sabbir was repentant. He pleaded not to do such anything in future. He confessed many more things to us. He told that his facebook account has been hacked. For this, such episode has been happened.”

Earlier, Sabbir lambasted a minor fan during the domestic cricket league for which he was suspended for six months from domestic cricket, the period which has been ended in August.

In June, the rowdy batsman slapped his teammate Mehidy Hasan Miraj at the dressing room during the last Afghanistan series in Dehradun, India.  “It’s not lesser punishment. His punishment earlier was pecuniary fine and six-month suspension. This time his six-month suspension from international cricket it bigger than the past. It has also been told that he has to face big punishment if he does such offence in future. Probably, he might been suspended for longer period,” the director told in response to a query.

The punishment the committee has handed players that was in the light of board’s service rules. Mallick issued a stiff warning that Sabbir might be suspended from both national and international Cricket for longer period if he repeats his offence.

“He had lack of guidance. It might be happened for his company what he has. The board president directed us to be tough. Sterner action will be done in future. If he repeats his offence, he might be suspended from both national and international cricket for longer period,” he warned.

Promising all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain Saikat was also called with Sabbir. But Saikat was given a stern warning.  “The matter of Mosaddek is a family case. Considering his case, we have given him some directives. He was also given a warning so that he could go on his activities in controlled way. As of now the matter is under court. It’ll be applicable what is suggested from the court,” Mollick said of Mosaddek Hossain.

There is no hearing on Nasir Hossain’s issue. But Mollick said that he might be called in future. Currently, he is out of cricket due to his major injury.
