Int’l conference on Rohingyas begins at DU

A two-day international conference on Rohingya crisis titled ‘Rohingya: Politics, Ethnic Cleansing and Uncertainty’ will begin at Dhaka University (DU) today. Criminology Department of DU informed this to media at a press conference at the social science building at 5pm yesterday. The conference is arranged by criminology department of DU which will be held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the university.

Prof Akhrauzzaman, vice-chancellor of DU, will inaugurate the programme on Saturday at 3pm. There will be 21 sessions where 72 papers will be presented by around 50 researchers, teachers, lawyer and students.

Assistant professor of Hong Kong University Kealy Lopar will present the keynote titled ‘The Rohingya, the search for solution and the potential of international human rights law’ at the conference.

Md Shahidul Hoque; secretary of ministry of foreign affairs, Prof Abul Barakat , department of economics of DU ; Prof Salimullah Khan, director of the Centre for advanced  theory also teacher of university of liberal arts Bangladesh ; Asif Munier , refugee and migrant expert; Papa Ktsma Sylla, deputy representative of UNHCR will be present as panelist speakers at the conference
