Tk 2,425 crore CCC budget announced

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday announced a budget of Tk 2, 425.42 crore for 2018-2019 fiscal with a special emphasis on infrastructural development, cleaning wastage, education, healthcare, while it was Tk 2,327.67crore for FY 2017-2018.

Tk 883.38 crore was announced as revised budget for 2017-2018 FY. Though 62 per cent budget of the last fiscal year was not implemented, the CCC mayor declared the jumbo budget. The budget was announced at Nagor Bhaban Abduar Sattar Conference Room, it was fourth budget of city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin after assuming power as mayor. Nasir was elected as mayor on April 28, 2015.

Chief executive officers Md Shamsudoa, Secretary Abul Hossain, chief engineer Lt Col Mohiuddin Ahmed were present, among others. The main income has been expected Tk 694.92 crore from its internal sources including holding tax and various properties. Last year, CCC earned about Tk400.23 crore from its internal sources against its target of Tk994.34 crore.

It also expects to get about Tk1, 730.50 crore as development aid and relief grants while last year it received only about Tk483.15 crore as aid and grants against its target Tk1, 333.30 crore. In the budget Tk2 crore are proposed for building home for freedom fighters, Tk2 crore has been proposed for conducting awareness programme at 17 city corporation wards against drugs and Tk2 crore for autism, said the mayor. The highest expenditure of the budget is the remuneration of the CCC employees and staff is Tk 272.68 crore. The CCC mayor said in replying to a question that though they could implement 38 per cent budget this year, in the next fiscal year 2018-2019 it would be over 50 per cent. It is mentionable that in 2015-2016 the implementation of the budget was 27 per cent, in 2016-2017 the implementation was 30 per cent and in the 2017-2018 the implementation of the budget is 38 per cent.
