Architect goes missing in capital

Staff Reporter

An architect of a real estate company has been missing for three days, according to his family. BMA Mahfuz Nabin, 38, an architect of the real estate developer, Sheltech, went missing after he left his Bhasantek residence for his office at Kalabagan on Sunday morning, said his wife, Jannatul Esha.

His family members lodged a general diary with Bhasantek police station the following day (Monday), she said. SI Ruhul Amin is carrying out an investigation into the matter.

Police and RAB said they have no information about anyone by this name being detained. Family members did not get any information while looking for Nabin at different hospitals in the capital.

Esha told The Independent

that Nabin left his residence at about 11:30am. After about an hour, she received an SMS from Nabin’s phone where he mentioned that his mobile battery needed recharging, and that would be done after he reached office at noon.

‘I made a call to Nabin’s phone after 2:00pm, but it was switched off. Later, I made a telephone call to Nabin’s office and came to know that Nabin did not go to office that day,” said Esha. The Sheltech authorities told The Independent that as his mother was ill and his only child was physically challenged, he was a worried person and spoke very little in office.

Police said they traced his last whereabouts by mobile tracking in Darussalam area of the capital at 1:26pm on Sunday. They are investigating why Nabin had gone there, or whether any other person had used his phone.

The police further said Tk 20,000 was withdrawn by using Nabin’s card from an ATM booth in Kachukhet area. They will also examine the CCTV footage to find out whether he himself had withdrawn the money. The missing architect’s wife said Nabin’s life mostly centered around the family.

“He used to spend time with his family. He loves his child very much. He was not such a man who could stay with some other people without informing us,” she added. Nabin completed his graduation from the architectural department of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and showed no signs of being involved in extremism, Esha added.
