Move on for proper
Hajj management

For the first time, the government is going to form two different high-powered committees—the National Hajj Management Committee and the Executive Committee for the National Hajj Management Committee—to avoid mismanagement during Hajj. The first committee will be headed by the Prime Minister, while the second one will have religious affairs minister at its helm. The religious affairs ministry has already forwarded the drafts of the two committees to the Cabinet Division for approval, said sources.

The ministry started Hajj activities from yesterday after being involved in discussions with 528 Hajj agencies, which will send 120,000 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj this year.

Sources said the proposed 22-member National Hajj Management Committee would be formed with ministers for religious affairs and civil aviation; Cabinet secretary; principal secretary to the Prime Minister; secretaries to the ministries of public administration, LGRD, housing and public works, , information, religious affairs, Security Service Division and Public Security Division of home ministry, and health service Division of the health ministry; chief executive officer (CEO) of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), director general (DG) of the NSI, DG of the Islamic Foundation, director of the Hajj Office, president of the Hajj Agencies' Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) and joint secretary to the religious affairs ministry.

The 24-member Executive Committee for the National Hajj Management Committee would be formed with secretaries to the ministries of public administration, LGRD, works, information, roads, transport and bridges, railways, religious affairs, shipping,

foreign affairs, civil aviation, Security Service Division and Public Service Division of the home ministry, Health Service Division of the health ministry, Health Education and Family Planning Division; representative from the Cabinet Division; DG of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), CEO of DNCC; chief engineer of the public works department; additional inspector general of the police headquarters; DG of the Islamic foundation; director of the Hajj Office; president of the HAAB and joint secretary to the religious affairs ministry.

Md Anisur Rahman, secretary to the religious affairs ministry, said the two committees would help pilgrims to perform Hajj without any hassle. “We'll hold a meeting of the proposed Executive Committee of the National Hajj Management Committee next week to review the ongoing Hajj activities,” he added.

Sources said a total of 126,798 Bangladeshi pilgrims would be able to perform hajj this year as per the Hajj Agreement signed between Bangladesh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Of them, only 6,798 pilgrims will go to perform their Hajj under government arrangement and the rest will depend on private arrangement.
