BSS

Sate Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid yesterday expected that Rupsha 800 MW Combined Cycle Power plant would commence its generation in June 2021, reports BSS from Sangsad Bhaban. “We have floated tender for construction of the power plant on 50 acres of abandoned land of Khulna newsprint mill,” he said this, while replying to a starred question from treasury bench member Sheikh Nurul Haque of Khulna-6 in the Jatiya Sangsad.

The state minister said the power plant would be constructed under North-West Power Generation Company with Asian Development Bank(ADB) and Islami Development Bank(IDB) finance.

He said the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has already approved the detail project proposal (DPP) of the plant on May 22, 2018.

“If the power plant is being implemented some 307 people would be employed and power connections would be given to new industries in the areas, which would help to poverty alleviation alongside improve socioeconomic condition,” Nasrul informed the House.
