Theatrewala Repertory to stage ‘Jobor Ajob Bhalobasa’ at BSA

After the Eid vacation, Theatrewala Repertory will stage the 19th show of its comedy play titled ‘Jobor Ajob Bhalobasa’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital tomorrow.

The play is an adaptation of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s comedy ‘The Bear’. Saif Sumon has adapted and directed the play from Mobarak Hossain Khan’s Bangla translation of the Russian drama.

‘Jobor Ajob Bhalobasa’ is a one-act comedy play, which consists of three characters. The play brought together artistes from different noted troupes of the country. The characters include- a broken-hearted widow named Prova who has recently lost her husband, her servant Sabur and a debt collector Navid Khan.

The play opens in Prova’s drawing room, where she had locked herself for seven months to mourn for her husband’s death. Before her husband’s demise, she promised to him that she will remain faithful towards her husband and would not love anyone ever again. Her servant Sabur tries his level best to bring her mistress out of her confinement and interact with the rest of the world once again merrily. Nonetheless, Prova denies to go outside, making Sabur’s efforts futile.

However, the story of the play takes a new turn when debt collector Navid Khan enters and his way of talking intrigues her and later, she breaks the promise to her dead husband to remain faithful after his death.

The role of grieving widow Prova will be enacted by Sangeeta Chowdhury of Natyakendra while the character of servant Sabur will be played by Riaz Hossain of Theatre Art Unit. Ramiz Razu of Prangonemor will be seen in debt collector Navid Khan’s role.
