No case yet over Badda AL leader murder

Staff Reporter

No case has been filed in connection with the murder of Farhad Ali, a local Awami League (AL) leader, in the city's North Badda area, said Nazrul Islam, the officer handling the case in Badda police station. Ali’s family is yet to file a case in this regard. The police said they would file the case themselves if the family failed to do so. Kazi Wazed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda police station, said that two killers from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw shot Farhad dead from a close range. The auto-rickshaw was stopped by police at a check-post on the Badda-Gulshan link road. But the murderers also fired at the law enfocers and fled the scene.

Police sources said the murderers were professional killers. They said law enforcers collected CCTV footage to identify the two killers.

The police are yet to identify the motive behind the killing. Sources said Farhad Hossain, 50, might have been killed because of extortion, control of business or personal conflict. According to locals, Farhad had a long dispute with a rival group in the area over dish business. They said the murder could be triggered by differences over the sharing of extortion money collected from local auto-rickshaws and other vehicles. Family and business feuds are also being seen as probable reasons.
