STAFF REPORTER
Captain Abid ‘injured’

Captain Abid Sultan, who was flying the crashed US-Bangla flight Q400, is alive but the fate of co-pilot Paritul is yet to be known, Chief Operating Officer of US Bangla Airlines Imran Asif said yesterday. He, however, said that the captain sustained injuries during the crash, he confirmed. Captain Abid has been flying commercial flights for the last 10 years after his retirement from Bangladesh Air Force. He worked for Regent Airlines before joining US Bangla Airlines. He operated US Bangla flights on the Dhaka-Kathmandu route on a regular basis, according to his close relatives. “Captain Abid is an experienced pilot. It won’t be wise to make any comment before knowing the reasons behind the accident,” Regent Airlines Adviser Asish Roy Chowdhury told The Independent. A close relative of Captain Abid, Sumaiya Zaman, told this correspondent that family members and relatives were worried about the fate of Abid since the accident as they were not able to get clear information regarding his fate. The condition of four cabin crew on board the flight, including Nabila, Khaja and Hafiz, is also yet to be ascertained till filing this report around 8:30pm
