Six gold medals in shooting

Shooting and chess disciplines following football among the different 21 disciplines of the Bangladesh Youth Games have been started at two different venues in the capital city yesterday.

At the shooting range of the Bangladesh Shooting Federation (BSF), a 177-point air pistol (boys and girls) event was held.

In boys’ section, Mymensingh’s Sheikh Shahjalal Sadman of Netrokona Rifle Club (267), Barisal’s Gazi Albiuzzaman of Patuakhali Rifle Club (170), Khulna’s Saikat of Kushtia Rifle Club (234) and Saifullah of Satkhira Rifle Club (219), Rajshahi’s Ali Mohammad Ibrahim of Bogra Rifle Club (239) and Sirajganj’s Mahbub-e-Samdani (208) and Dhaka’s Rawnak Chowdhury of Gulshan Shooting Club (256) and Nahiyan Rahman of Narayanganj Rifle Club (227) promoted to the final round, which will be decided today.

In girls’ section, Dhaka’s Shammi Akhter of Gulshan Shooting Club (272) and Mehjabin Mehtaj of Narayanganj Rifle Club (249), Rajshahi’s Nabila Tabassum of Pabna Rifle Club (256) and Arpita Saha of Sirajganj Rifle Club (230), Khulna’s Nilufar Yesmin of Kushtia Rifle Club (263) and Barisal’s Nusrat Rahman Nisha of Patuakhali Rifle Club (238) progressed to the final round which will also be held at the same day at the BSF shooting range.

It’s mentionable that a total of 42 young shooters under three events including Point-177 open Air Rifle (boys and girls), Point-177 Air Rifle (boys and girls) and Air Pistol event (boys and girls) will fight for six gold, six silver and six bronze medals.

Chess discipline opened with single event, in where 63 young chess players from eight divisions are taking  part in the five events including boy U-13, girl U-13, boy U-17 and girl U-17.

The games will be evolved through the five-round Swiss league system.

Of them, a total of 16 players including international rating player is vying in the boys U-13 event, 16 players including four international rating players in the boys U-17 event, while 16 players including five international rating players in the girls U-13 event and 15 players including three international rating players are competing in the girls U-17 event.

With full point FIDE master Fahad Rahman, Naeem Haque, Mohammad Raison, Mortuza Mahathir Islam, Abdul Ahad, Shahriar Islam, Shakil Khandokar and Tahsin Ibne Jamal from boy U-17.
