To celebrate the 38th founding anniversary, Dhaka Padatik, one of the most prominent theatre troupes in the country, has arranged a weeklong theatre festival at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The inaugural ceremony of the festival will be held today at 6pm on the BSA premises, where Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman will be present as the chief guest. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Secretary General Akhtaruzzaman will attend the programme as special guests, while actor Nader Chowdhury and cultural personality Golam Kuddus will speak at the event.

Besides, Abul Kashem Dulal Padak and Gazi Zakir Hossain Padak will be conferred at the ceremony. After the inauguration, host troupe Dhaka Padatik will stage its new play ‘Trial of Surya Sen’ today. Based on the anti-British movement, ‘Trial Surya Sen’ has been produced under the composition and direction of Masum Aziz. This is the 38th production of Dhaka Padatik.

Along with 40 other characters, the main characters of the play include Surya Sen, Pritilata, Kalpana Dutta, Ambika Chakravarti, Lokenath Bal and Nirmalsen. l
