Music director Ali Akbar Rupu passes away

Noted music composer and director Ali Akbar Rupu died at a city hospital on Thursday, when he was 57, reports UNB. Rupu, who had long been suffering from kidney and heart diseases, breathed his last around 12:40pm at United Hospital, said her daughter Fariha Naz.

He is survived by wife, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives, fans and well-wishers to mourn his death. Fariha said her father's first namaz-e-janaza was held at Gulshan Azad Mosque after Asr prayers followed by the second one at Baro Moghbazar Jam-e-Mosque. Later, she said Rupu's body was taken to Bangla Vision to enable his colleagues to pay their last respect to him.

Then he was buried at Azimpur Graveyard after Isha prayers yesterday. Beginning career as a musician in the early 80s, Rupu was a composer and director of many popular songs. He is also well-known for many songs he composed and directed for popular magazine show ‘Ittyadi’.

He had composed many popular songs like ‘Protiti Shishur Mukhe’ sung by Sabina Yasmin, ‘Jaarey Ghor Dila Shangshar Dila Re’ sung by Kumar Bishwajit, ‘Padma Patar Pani Noy’ sung by Andrew Kishore and others. He also worked as music director in famous in films like ‘Rastar Chele’ and ‘Dui Biyaiyer Kirti’.
