‘2nd International Sufi Festival’ starts Friday

The ‘2nd International Sufi Festival’ will begin in the capital’s Shilpakala Academy on Friday (February 23), reports UNB.

Allama Rumi Society of Bangladesh and Hatkhola Foundation will organize the festival with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs under the patronisation of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

The festival with the theme ‘Music for Unity’ will run for three days.

A press conference was held on Monday at the seminar room of BSA where Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzamana Noor was present as the chief guest. Asaduzzaman Noor said that this festival will project the non-communal, humane and multi-cultural nature of Bangladeshi people.

Four countries-India, Iran and Turkey and Bangladesh will participate in the festival with their traditional music.

A total of 119 (70 from Bangladesh and 49 from the other countries) Sufis, folklore singers will perform in the festival.

On the other hand, 15 troupes from home and 4 from abroad are on the performance list while Iranian Jairob, Turkish team and two Indian teams including Ruhani sisters will perform too.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on February 23 at 3.30 pm while a seminar on Sufi festival music will be arranged on the second day (February 24).

Director General of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky, treasurer of Allama Rumi Society of Bangladesh Abdul Majid, member secretary of the festival Yusuf Muhammad were also present.

The music festival will begin with the performance of traditional dance while a popular Bangladeshi band ‘Joler Gaan’ will appear as the last performer.

The first edition of the festival was held in Chittagong.

The festival will remain open from 3 pm to 10 pm every day. The entry is free for all.
