“We are favourites, hopefully we will be the champions tomorrow,” Marurful Haque coach of the Arambagh Krira Sangha sounded very positively in a press conference yesterday when his team will take on Chittagong Abahani Limited in the final of the Walton Independence Cup football tournament.

The match will be held at 4pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.

Both the sides put across their high hopes to win the final though Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu, coach of the Chittagong Abahani was a bit tactical to express his expectation saying that the team will be able to demonstrate better performance on the day and will avail the chances to become  the winners.

While Maruful Haque was very open to say, “We are favourites for tomorrow and hopeful of becoming champions. We began the tournament as underdogs but gradually we improved a lot and we already defeated the league champions and the runners-up to qualify in the final.”

Actually the final will be a different ball game when Arambagh will play the final to win a trophy for the first time and for Chittagong Abahani it would be one kind of battle to retain the title and also to end the season with some satisfaction, as they derailed from the league championship race being top up to 17th round.

However, in a press conference yesterday besides the coach Maruful Haque, captain Abu Sufian Shufil of Arambagh looked very confident to overcome the giants’ challenge, if they would success, then it would be a record in the domestic soccer history of defeating the league champions, runners up and the third placed team in a row.

But Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu, looked a bit thoughtful with his players fitness, as he said, “For last one year the boys have been playing at a stretch since the Sheikh Kamal Gold Cup tournament, they have almost no rest, so I have some confusion with their tiredness.”

“But tomorrow it will be a final match, they will play with full energy and will not feel fatigue, if they can execute the technique and can play to their ability then it will possible to win the trophy,” said Mintu.
