BGB man hurt in Dinajpur smugglers’ attack

Dinajpur: A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was injured as smugglers launched an attack on a BGB team during a drive in Birampur bordering area in the district early Thursday, reports UNB. The injured is Nabab Ali, 25, a soldier of BGB. Acting on a tip-off, they challenged a group of smugglers and recovered 91 bottles of Phensidyl syrup near pillar No 290 around 12:10 am, said BGB Daudpur camp commander nayeb subedar Abdul Malek. Later, the smugglers swooped on the BGB men with local weapons, leaving Nabab injured. The hoodlums fled the scene as the border force opened fire in self-defence, added Malek.

 

Teenager found dead

Police recovered the body of a teenager from a paddy field at Ahmedpur village in Senbagh upazila of Noakhali district yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shaker Shaheen, 14, son of Morshadul Alam of Mozidpur village in the upazila. He was a class IX student of Hazi Maksudur Rahman High School. According to the locals, Shaker went out of his house on Thursday night and did not return. Yesterday locals found the body and informed police. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy. Officer-in-charge of Senbagh police station Harun Ur Rashid told The Independent that several injury marks were found on the body. Criminals might have hacked him to death, he added.

5 held with foreign currencies

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested five Hundi traders along with huge foreign currencies from Benapole check post area yesterday afternoon. The currencies include Indian Rupee 35,20,000 and USD 20,900. The arrestees were identified as Nazrul Islam, 35, son of Titu Bakul, Jewel Khan, 32, son of Abdul Mannan, Sahidur Rahman, 40, son of Khabir Uddin, Sahida Bagum, 22, wife of Ayub Ali, and Yasmin Akhter, 20, wife of Kawser Ali. All of them hailed from Dhaka. Tipped-off, BGB members took position in the check post area and detained them along with the foreign currencies, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of 49 BGB Battalion. A case was filed in this connection and the currencies were deposited to Benapole Customs House, he added.
