Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday inaugurated the newly-set up 'Sheikh Hasina Cantonment', aiming to strengthen the defence system in the country's southern region, reports UNB. The Prime Minister opened the country's 31st cantonment on the bank of the Payra River at Lebukhali in Dumki upazila of the southwestern coastal district of Patuakhali in the morning by unveiling its plaque.
She also hoisted national standard of 11 headquarters and units, including the adhoc headquarters of 7 infantry division. Ministers, parliament members, the chiefs of the three services, diplomats, former chiefs of army and senior government officials were present on the occasion. The new cantonment has been constructed on about 1,400 acres of land.
