Affected people to get 624 flats

The government has decided to construct 624 flats of 1000-square feet near the Uttara third phase in the capital for the rehabilitation of people who are affected due to Dhaka elevated expressway (DEE) project. An agreement was signed in this regard to construct the flats under public private partnership (PPP) projects at city’s Banani Setu Bhaban yesterday. A total of 12 buildings of 15-storey will be constructed in two-blocks at a cost of Tk 625.59 crore for the affected people because of elevated expressway.

The Dhaka Elevated Expressway, one of the largest infrastructures of the country, aims to reduce traffic congestion of the capital. After completion, the expressway will connect Shahjalah airport with Kutubkhali area in Dhaka- Chittagong highway.

The route also will travel different parts in the capital including Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Kamalapur, Sayadabad and Jatrabari areas. The length of the expressway is around 46.73km (including the connecting roads) and will cost about 122 billion.

Managing director of the Civil Engineering Ltd. Atiqur Rahman also signed the agreement on behalf of his company.
