Ruman betters nat’l record in individual recurve

Ruman Sana Sujan, archer of Bangladesh Ansar, set a national record in the men’s individual event of the recurve division on the opening day of the Teer 9th National Archery Championships-2018 at the Archery Training center of the Shaheed Ahsanullah Master Stadium in Tongi yesterday.

Sujan chalked up 654 scores that bettered his previous national record of 652 scores en route to quarter final, where he will fight against Sudipto Chakma to ensure his semifinal spot today (Thursday).

The semifinal and final of the national meet will be held at the same day. Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel will take on Ibrahim Rizwan and Sheikh Sojib face off Sanwar Hossain, while Tamimul Islam will compete against Abdullah Al Mamun in the men’s single.

Roksana Akhter will vie against Mahmuda Akhter, Sumi Bishwas will fight against Bipasha Akhter, whilst Bonna Akhter will strive against Kaniz Fatema and Susmita Bonik will struggle against Shiulee Akhter in the women’s single of the compound division.

A total of 142 men and women from 32 teams including different district sports associations, services organisations and clubs are taking part in the three-day-long national championships, inaugurated by Jahid Ahsan Russel, chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports ministry.   

Soyeb Mohammad Asaduzzaman, executive director (sale and maketing) of City Group, was present as the special guest. Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) vice president Anisur Rahman Dipu, BAF general secretary Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal and coordinator of the championship Faruque Dhali, among others, were also present.
