Two hurt in JnU BCL infighting

Two students were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Jagannath University (JnU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student body of ruling Awami League, yesterday.

The injured are –Swapan, a student of social work department and Md Shohaan of marketing department. They were taken to local hospital. Later, Shohan was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Both the factions – one led by JnU BCL President Tarikul Islam and another by its General Secretary Md Joynal Abedin Rasel - engaged in chase and counter chase around 9am, triggering sporadic clashes that continued till 1:00pm, said Mushiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station This correspondent tried to reach JnU unit BCL president over phone but he did not pick his phone up.

JnU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) General Secretary Joynul Abedin Rasel said they will take action if any BCL man is found involve in the incident.

The university vice-chancellor Mijanur Rahman told media that the university authorities will take steps if any written complaint is filed in this regard.
