Five members of a family physically challenged

Shaidul Islam is having very hard times running his family as five members of the family, even he himself is physically challenged.

Shahidul is the son of late Mohir Uddin of village Choto Chouna in Sakhipur upazila of Tangail. Being a man with disability Shahidul married to another physically challenged woman Firoza Akhter. Out of their three children Sabuj, 12 and Shariful, 8 are visually impaired.

As Shahidul’s father-in-law died, he has to look after his mother in-law Rabiya, 80 as well. She is also incapable of working. But she gets neither old-age allowance nor allowances for the disabled.

Shahidul said out of six members of his family five are disabled. He is to beg with his two blind sons for earning livelihood. “I only get approximately Tk600 per month with which it is impossible to run my family,” he said.

Firoza Akhter, wife of Shahidul said, “There is no alternative but to look after my old paralysed mother, so I have to beg for her. But I cannot buy medicine due to want of money.”

Chairman of Kakrajan UP Tariqul Islam said that all of them will be brought under allowance scheme for the disabled gradually.

They will get some other facilities too.
