Shakib leads in all formats
for most of the days in ’17
Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh talismanic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan yet again achieved a rare feat, something no one in the world was able to match. After the end of 2017, the ICC statisticians found Shakib as the only player to dominate ICC all-rounder rankings across three formats and thereby rightly announced him the ‘runaway leader’.

Shakib dominated all three format’s all-rounder rankings for the highest time than any other players, a feat that even Virat Kohli or Steven Smith couldn’t attain despite going through a golden time in 2017.

“Among all-rounders, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan was the runaway leader across formats with Ashwin-Jadeja (of India) in Tests, Mohammad Hafeez (of Pakistan) in ODIs and Glen Maxwell (of Australia) in T20Is snatching the baton from him at different points in time,” the ICC said in a statement.

Shakib led the Test all-rounder rankings chart for 284 days while the next best was Ravichandran Ashwin’s 72 days. He was the leader in ODI all-rounder rankings for 283 days while Mohammad Hafeez’s 82 days was next best. He was ruthless however in T20 all-rounder rankings. Glenn Maxwell had grabbed top spot for 55 days from Shakib Al Hasan, who stayed at the top for 310 days before Maxwell dislodged him for 55 days.

The Test, ODI and T20 batting, bowling chart however was dominated by different players. While Smith was clear leader in Test batting chart, being top for throughout the year, Kohli took the honours in ODI batting chart in which he was at top of the position for 190 days.

Shakib was clearly elated by the news and took his facebook and twitter handle to wish his fans and well wishers.

“Happy New Year! Hope all of you had a wonderful 2017. May 2018 return humanity to our hearts and bring prosperity and happiness for all. Let us inspire each other to be better and look after one another,” he wrote.
