Tennis needs fund to survive

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh Tennis Federation (BTF) has been facing serious fund crisis to run its regular and development activities. BTF general secretary Golam Morshed stated this at a press conference at the federation auditorium in the capital yesterday. He said despite fund crisis, the BTF has taken a number of steps to host or participate in international tournaments in the coming year.

“You know we need a huge fund to stage or sending our team abroad. But still we are hold all these programme from our limited resources. You need money to prepare a team with extensive coaching or holding a camp under qualified coaches. Moreover, the BTF will have to bear air ticket and their outfit expenses to send a team to take part in a tournament like Davis Cup or other junior international tournaments.”

Golam Morshed, who is holding the post of general secretary of an ad-hoc committee since February this year, hardly get any cooperation from other office bearers or members of the committee which seemed to media yesterday as not a single official turn up in the press conference.

“I think it is their personal matter but still I’m running the federation activities with the consent of BTF president.” At this point he mentioned that he is running the federation overlooking the threats from a certain quarter.

“I’m again requesting the corporate and big business houses of the country to come forward to carry and survive this game in Bangladesh. Otherwise it will be vanished day by day,” said Morshed. However, the National Sports Council has approved a fund of Taka seven core to renovate the National Tennis Complex.

Replaying to a question he said that he also wants an elected committee to run the federation. He said that the election is over due but due to a court order it was held up. “Here I want to request all councilors to help to formulate an amended constitution which would help us to hold a fair and free election,” said the BTF general secretary.
