Babes Saif back to winnings ways

A fantastic solo run from Matin Miah steered Saif Sporting Club to blank Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 2-0 to earn full three valuable points in the Saif Power Battery Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday.

Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, in the day’s first match, struggling Saif Sporting survived with full points with two second half goals when Charles Edward Sheringham led newly promoted team in the second minute of the second half and Matin Meah scored the sensational goal in the injury time.

Saif Power, who appeared in the Premier League with huge prospect and also kept up their commitment up to the midway of the league and even defeating champions Abahani Limited in the first match of the second-leg remained very closer to the league leaders. But dropping points in the previous two matches in a row to lowly Arambagh and relegation strugglers Farashganaj SC pushed them six points behind to the table toppers.

After winning the match they are remained on fourth place after 15 matches with 30 points and they have still chance to represent Bangladesh in the AFC Club Cup competition.

However, the title contenders after their two draws also faced some challenges from Muktijoddha KC, who are still in the relegation threat, as they had wait for 46 minutes to break the deadlock and to ensure the victory in the injury period.

Saif Sporting initiated the day’s first move from where they could take inside half an hour mark of the match but Jewel Rana failed to connect a Sheringham right side cross when the English booter well-defined with his skilled to released the ball for onrushing Jewel on 29th minute.

After the goalless first half, Saif took lead in the second minute after the break when it was a close range finish from Sheringham after a Matin Miah and Jewel Rana combination well down the left on 47th (1-0).

Matin Meah, who replaced Hamber Valencia few minutes before the scheduled 90 minutes displayed a classic skill when the young booter taking the ball possessions at the mid-way from their own half and just dribbled past four of his markers and finally beat the goalkeeper to open the net (2-0).
