DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq passes away

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq, who had long been undergoing treatment at a London hospital for neurological problem, passed away yesterday, reports UNB. He was 66. Doctors at the Wellington Hospital declared him dead around 4:23pm local time after removing the life support, said his personal assistant Mizanur Rahman. Annisul was put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at London's Regent Park Mosque after Juma prayers on Friday. His body will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here around 11:20am on Saturday and later, he will be buried at Banani graveyard following another janaza at Army Stadium after Asr prayers on the day. Annisul was diagnosed with cerebral vasculitis at a London neurology hospital after he was admitted to it on August 13. Later, he was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The DNCC Mayor was shifted from the ICU to another hospital on October 31 for physiotherapy after his condition improved. Annisul flew to London in the last week of July for personal purpose.

Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid expressed shock at the death of Annisul Huq.

"The nation has lost an eminent businessman and a successful industrialist with the death of Annisul . . . His death is really an irreparable loss for the country," the President said in a condolence message.

Abdul Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. Prime Sheikh Hasina also expressed profound shock at the death of Annisul Huq. In a message of condolence, Sheikh Hasina said, "Annisul has made his place in the hearts of the common people through his public-welfare and service-oriented work." Through the death of this people-oriented mayor, the country and the nation have lost a devoted public representative, she said. The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
