Marking the 129th birth anniversary of Mohammad Nasiruddin, a pioneering journalist and editor of Bengali literary magazine Saogat, Bangladesh National Museum is going to hold a memorial programme at its Poet Sufia Kamal auditorium today. Writer and journalist Rahat Khan will attend the programme as the chief guest, while Dainik Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar and Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad will address the event. World Federation of Teacher's Union President Professor Mahfuza Khanam will chair the programme.

Born on November 20, 1988 at Paikadi village in Chandpur, Nasiruddin published the leading illustrated Bengali literary magazine called 'Saogat' on December 2, 1918 in Calcutta. In 1926, Nasiruddin organised the Saogat Sahitya Majlis. He had published another illustrated weekly called 'Begum' in 1946. After the India partition in 1947, he migrated to Dhaka, East Bengal, wherefrom the Saogat began to appear again regularly since 1954.

In 1985, Nasiruddin served as the first chairman of the trustee board of Nazrul Institute. The pioneering journalist had obtained the Bangla Academy Award in 1975, Ekushey Padak in 1977 and also attained Independence Day Award.
