Global CSOs worried at shrinking of their spaces

UNB

As global civil society organisations (CSOs) have expressed their concern over the shrinking of their spaces in the global development process, Bangladeshi CSOs have called for an effective and enabling environment as equal level development partnership, reports UNB. The concern and the call came at a seminar titled “Bangladeshi CSO Dialogue with GPEDC, Realising Enhancing Development Cooperation and the SDGs: Bangladesh Perspectives” jointly organised by the CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness (CPDE) group in Bangladesh and COAST Trust at a  hotel in the capital on Thursday.

State Minister for Finance and Planning Abdul Mannan was present as the chief gust at the programme chaired by PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, executive director of COAST Trust, moderated the seminar supported by the Development Effectiveness Wing of the Economic Relations Division.

CSO leaders from various countries and some Steering Committee Members of the GPEDC (Global Partnership on Effective Development Cooperation) participated in the event. In his speech, Mannan said the government is very keen to ensure engagement of CSOs in the development process.
