PSC to appoint 139 candidates to first-class non-cadre posts

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has recommended 139 candidates for appointment to first-class non-cadre posts from those who did not get government jobs following the 35th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations.
“We’ve recommended 139 candidates to first-class non-cadre posts from the 35th BCS. It was the last list for the first-class non-cadre jobs in the third phase. We would make recommendations for the second-class non-cadre posts after Eid-ul-Fitr,” PSC chairman Mohammad Sadiq told The Independent yesterday.
On 17 April, the PSC had recommended 395 candidates to first-class non-cadre posts from the BCS exams. In May, the commission had recommended 160 candidates.
Of the 139 candidates, at least 60 candidates have been appointed statistics officers while 34 have been appointed sub-registrars. Others have been recommended for the health, education and passports departments, PSC sources said.  
The results of the 35th BCS examination were published on 17 August last year, with a total of 5,533 successful candidates. Of them, 2,158 were appointed to different cadre posts while 3,359 were kept waiting for different non-cadre posts.
As many as 2,600 candidates responded when the PSC called for applications for appointment to the first- and second-class non-cadre posts from the remainder of the successful candidates.
The government has been appointing first class non-cadre officials since the 28th BCS in 2010.
Meanwhile, Sadiq said they would announce the dates of the 38th BCS examinations after the commission’s meeting on June 20.
“We have a meeting on June 20. After the meeting, the circular for the 38th BCS exam will be announced,” he said yesterday.
Although one-and-a-half years have passed since the 37th BCS, no circular for the 38th BCS exam has been issued yet.
PSC sources said there would be over 2,000 posts in different cadres in the 38th BCS exam.
The commission said they hold the BCS exams after getting the lists of vacant posts from the public administration ministry.
