Stocks open week down as major sectors dip

Stocks opened the week down as the major sectors closed the session with falling trends at both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock exchanges yesterday, reports BSS.
The falling major sectors included financial institutions and insurance. A total of 144 securities of the large-cap group incurred losses due to lower activities.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the session with 6.69 points down at 5,461.63. The blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES followed it with 0.27 points down at 2031.01 and with 1.34 points down at 1260.57 respectively.
The day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Tk 473.39 crore from Thursday’s Tk 530.16 crore and the daily trade fell to 14.43 crore shares from 16.72 crore shares of the previous session.
At DSE, out of the day’s 328 securities, prices of 101 securities closed higher against 176 losing issues.
The major gaining issues were SEMLIBBLSF, Asia Pacific Insurance, RECKITTBEN, Rahim Text and PTL. The major losing companies were First Finance, Takaful Insurance, Peoples Insurance, BIFC and Mercantile Insurance.
PTL topped the turnover leaders followed by Argon Denims, Regent Textile, Nurani Dying and Saif Power.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also finished session in red yesterday, with major CASPI index closing 15.57 points down at 16916.26.
