Mentioning that a political culture of controlling the election process by the ruling class has developed in Bangladesh, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said it is more applicable to Awami League.

“A culture has developed in Bangladesh politics that whichever party goes to power tries to control the election process,” he said while addressing an extended meeting of district BNP at the party office.

Fakhrul said the Awami League government established the system of holding polls under the party government through amending the Constitution. “They formed this government through the January-5, 2014 voter-less election where 154 MPs were elected unopposed.”

Reiterating that they want to join the election, he said it must be held under a non-party ‘supportive’ government and a neutral Election Commission. “But, the recent experience suggests that the election won’t be fair if it is held under a party government.”

The BNP leader said their chairperson Kheleda Zia presented the ‘Vision 2030’ before the country’s people as they want to do constructive politics. “We want to do politics keeping pace with the modern world leaving all the apathies behind.UNB.
