In a day of upset of the Walton Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, Gazi Group Cricketers were stripped off from the unbeaten tag as Kalabagan Krira Chakra thrashed them by 127 runs at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium yesterday.

Gazi’s first defeat in the 10th match of the league though couldn’t displace them from the top of the table. With 18 points, they are still the league leaders, followed by Abahani Limited with 16 points.
Brothers Union also produced an upset, crushing Mohammedan Sporting Club by 129 runs at BKSP-3 ground while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club sealed a thrilling two-wicket win over comparatively stronger Prime Bank Cricket Club at BKSP-4 ground.
Gazi Group vs Kalabagan
Opener Tasamul Haque hit a well-composed 102 while off-spinner Sanit Saha and Pakistani leg-spinner Saad Nasim, claimed three wickets apiece in an economical bowling display as Kalabagan brought an end to the Gazi’s winning streak.
Thanks to Tasamul’s century Kalabagan amassed a moderate 222 for nine in 50 overs. For Gazi it was supposed to be a cake-walk but they crumbled in the face of the intelligent off and leg-spinning combination to be wrapped up for 95 in just 32.5 overs.  Saha returned figures of 6.5-1-7-3 while Nasim’s bowling figure was 7-0-12-3. They were well supported by Abul Hasan Raju’s pace bowling (two for 24) and Tushar Imran’s gentle medium pace bowling (two for 19).
Only three batsmen from Gazi could reach double digit figure with the captain Nadif Chowdhury hitting the highest 45. Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy made 14 while Abu Haider Rony scored 11. Four batsmen were dismissed before opening their account as Gazi were completely outclassed in a match in which they should win with ease.
In his patient 102 runs knock, Tasamul faced 132 deliveries and hit only six boundaries. With the wickets tumbling around him, his painstaking batting kept the side in the hunt. Tushar Imran was the other notable scorer with 32. Tasamul’s knock was only the fifty plus score in either side, proving how unforgiving the pitch was for the batsman. He was eventually adjudged man of the match.
Mohammedan vs Brothers
Zunaed Siddique struck 123 ball-110 with eight boundaries as Brothers Union piled up 276 for eight in the stipulated 49 overs. The match reduced by one over due to the overnight shower. Mohammedan was shot out for 147 in 35.4, following a sensational batting collapse which saw the team losing nine wickets for just 44 runs.
Thanks to a fluent 70 runs knock from opener Shykat Ali, Mohammedan was in the hunt despite losing Shamsur Rahman Shuvo early in the innings.
Shykat smashed five sixes and four fours in his knock but after his dismissal, Mohammedan tasted a collapse to loss the match. Iftekhar Sajjad with four for 19 was the pick of the bowler for Brothers victory. Zunaed’s century was complemented by 51 runs from skipper Alok Kapali. The other batsmen however couldn’t contribute much.
Prime Bank vs Sheikh Jamal
Prime Bank Cricket Club piled up 270 for nine which Sheikh Jamal gunned down with just one ball to spare, losing eight wickets. This indicated how competitive the match was. No.8 batsman Elias Sunny’s 47 ball-44 and No. 9 batsman Mahmudul Haque’s, unbeaten 23 ball-27 played a pivotal role in clinching the cliffhanger. They shared 64 off just 53 to help the side sail the home when Jamal was reduced to 201 for seven in 41st overs.  However Sohag Gazi 54 in No 4 position laid the platform. Indian recruit Prashant Chpora made 48 to complement Sohag’s 54. Captain Medehi Maruf with 61 was Prime Bank’s top scorer. Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 54.
