Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin was elected president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for next two years, while Sheikh Fazle Fahim was elected the senior vice-president and Muntakin Ashraf as vice president for the same tenure.

Sammilita Ganatantrik Parishad (SGP) panel led by Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, the incumbent senior vice-president of the country’s apex trade body, has won the election.

The SGP bagged 16 out of 18 positions of director from the association group. The panel also secured 16 of the 18 positions of director from the chamber group, elected uncontested. Now, a total of 32 out of the 36 positions of directors have secured by the SGP, according to the official result announced by election board chairman Md Ali Ashraf.

A total of 36 candidates contested for the positions of 18 directors for the association group from two panels. Babashaye Oikya Forum led by Syed Moazzam Hossain got two positions of directors from association group. Newly elected president of FBCCI Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin wanted to work with the government in developing the congenial atmosphere to invest in business sector.

He also said that he would work to make stronger of the country’s apex body so that the businessmen would carry out their business to flourish the country’s economy. The newly elected committee will take over the power on May 21.

The winners from the SGP are: Khondoker Moinur Rahman Jewel, SM Jahangir Hossain, Shafquat Haider, Abul Ayes Khan, Muntakim Ashraf, Nizamuddin Ahmed, Amzad Hossain, Shafiqul Islam Vorosha, Abu Motaleb, Habib Ullah Dawn, Khandaker Ruhul Amin, Nizamuddin Rajesh, Hafez Harun, Shomi Kaiser, Abu Naser and Rashedul Hossain Chowdhury (Ronni). The Babashaye Oikya Forum winners are: Kazi Ertaza Hassan and Helena Jahangir.
