Petition filed seeking formulation of law to constitute EC

A writ petition was filed with the HC on Wednesday seeking its direction to formulate a law for constituting the Election Commission (EC).

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akond filed the writ petition in the morning Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary and the EC were made respondent to the petition.

The petition will be placed before the joint bench of Justice Quazi Reza‐Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah on Sunday for hearing, Akond said.

According to article 118 of the Constitution, there is a direction to formulate a law to form the EC, the lawyer said.

‘But no law has been enacted in this regard till now,’ he added.unb.

The writ also sought the court to announce all the ECs, formed till now, unconstitutional as those were formed without any law, Akond said.
