Udichi Shilpigosthi celebrates first day of monsoon

To welcome the monsoon (first day of the rainy season), prominent cultural organisation Udichi Shilpigosthi, organised a day long festival titled ‘Barsha Utsab 1423’ yesterday at the Nazrul Mancha of Bangla Academy, Shahbag in the city. The colourful programme included songs, dance and poetry recitation.
The programme started at 7 o’clock in the morning with a rendition of traditional song ‘Allah Megh De, Pani De, Chhaya De Re Tui’ by the artistes of Udichi. After the performance of the traditional song with the traditional instrument like dhol, tabla, dotora, banshi etc, noted singer Priyanka Gope performed classical songs which created marvellous feelings to the people in the very first morning of the Bangla month of Ashar.
After Priyanka Gope, Udichi Shilpigosthi (Dhanmondi branch) took the stage with a group performance while artistes of Agnibina O Folk Bangla presented chorus. Noted singer Mahadev Ghosh, Anima Mukti, Bulbul Islam, Biman Biswas, Bijon Chandra Mistri, Jinat Ferdous, Nripen Mistry, Sanjida Begum Sanju, Shelly Rouf and others performed solo in the festival. Among the monsoon songs presented were ‘Aji Jhoro Jhoro Badolo Mukhoro Dine’, ‘Badol Diner Prothom Kodom Phul’, ‘Chhaya Ghonaichhe Bone Bone’, ‘Gohon Ghono Gogon Ghonaiya’, ‘Pagla Hawar Badol Dine’ and others.
Jayanta Chattopadhyay, Belayet Hossain and Shikha Sen Gupta, among others recited poems of Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and others, while dance troupe Nrityam and Spandan presented colourful dance performances.
On the other hand, artistes of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad staged a dance-drama ‘Bristi Pore Tapur Tupur’, scripted by Mahmud Selim and directed by Biplob Raihan.
Alongside Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad, several troupes of Udichi from Mirpur, Badda, Turag, Kafrul and Nawabganj took part in the Barsha Utsab.
The programme also included a discussion, where vice-president of Udichi Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad Nibas Dey read out the declaration of monsoon and general secretary Iqbal Haque Khan anchored the event. President of Udichi Shilpigosthi Kamal Lohani, president of its Dhaka Mahanagar Sangsad Kazi Mohammad Sheesh, among others, took part in the event as guests.
