Domestic competitions return through female footballers

Women booters are highly excited and enthusiastic as competitive football in the domestic circle returns with the Women Soccer League and JFA Cup tournament (age group) kicked off on November 7 and  November 3 respectively in different venues across the country.

Ritu Porna Chakma, one of the premier performers of the national side looked very excited for making a comeback into the game after a long hiatus as she was talking to The Independent on Sunday expressing her feelings.

“I don’t know how I can express my joy, really it’s immense pleasure and the joy knows no bounds as we have returned to the ground. It is like a freedom after an enormous troubled time. However, we are now in our usual life and looking forward to prepare us for coming assignments.”, she said while a match of the women league was going on at the Bir Shreshtha Mustafa Kamal Stadium, Kamalapur.

“Anyway, the long break hampered our fitness a lot but after joining in the camp and having systematic training for the last one month we are regaining our fitness.” She was also happy with her quick recovery.

Meanwhile, the newly elected committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), implemented its decision to start the domestic football competition with the women competitions.

The Women Football League of 2020 was forced to postpone on March 18 due to pandemic with some six matches left towards the end of the first phase.

The Head coach of the Bangladesh National Women Football team Golam Rabbani Choton, who is keenly watching matches of the league, stated his happiness at the present conditions of the players to the Independent on Sunday at the Kamalapur Stadium while a match was going on.

“You know, for the coronavirus pandemic all of our players were out of game even from training and usual practice and we all were under a tremendous nightmare in the last seven months.”

“Though the girls were trying to work out but it was not enough for playing football. They were deprived from nutrition and systematic training for a long period. Our girls are naturally of weak-physic so due to lack of proper nutrition their strength also deteriorated a lot.”

“So it’s reality that their physical fitness would decline but it’s impressive that they are recovering well in the last one month but will take time to return into real shape.”

“It is good to see that the BFF started the games in accordance with their commitments and the  girls returned to competitive matches. Our next international match is scheduled for March 18, 2021 in the AFC Under-21 Championship. So, it is really great that the players will recoup their habit of playing competitive matches.”

“Players will regain their technical and mental toughness to play international matches after a long interval through this league games,” said Choton who is very happy in returning to the game.
