Coronavirus cases hit 21,199 in Khulna

With detection of 78 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Friday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now reached to 21,199 while 17,612 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 83.07 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,199 with 78 new positive cases were reported after testing 182 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till today’s noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 30 were detected in Khulna followed by 20 in Jashore, 15 in Kushtia, six in Jhenidah three in Chuadanga, two in Meherpur and one each in Magura and Satkhira districts in the division.

“Among the total 21,199 coronavirus infected persons, 2,256 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 17,612 have recovered and 366 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands to 366 in the division with one death was reported to Jhenidah on Friday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stands 366 on Friday. The break-up now at 93 in Khulna, 65 in Kushtia, 44 in Jashore, 32 in Chuadanga, 32 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,199 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.72 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 50 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 87 were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 noon today.

A total of 58,900 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 57,093 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,256 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
