Coronavirus cases hit 21,121 in Khulna

With detection of 80 more positive cases in all 10 districts of the division on Thursday, the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients now reaches 21,121 while 17,535 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 83.02 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS.

She said that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,121 with 80 new positive cases reported after testing 182 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 15 were detected in Khulna followed by 13 each in Jashore and Jhenidah, 12 in Kushtia, eight in Chuadanga, seven in Narail, five in Magura, four in Bagerhat, two in Meherpur and one in Satkhira districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients now stands at 6,198 in Khulna, 3,724 in Jashore, 3,134 in Kushtia, 1,851 in Jhenaidah, 1,385 in Chuadanga, 1,291 in Narail, 1,090 in Satkhira, 973 in Bagerhat, 884 in Magura and 591 in Meherpur, she added.

“Among the total 21,121 coronavirus infected persons, 2,244 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 17,535 have recovered and 365 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division,” Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands to 365 in the division with one death reported on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities stands at 365 on Thursday. The breakups are 93 in Khulna, 65 in Kushtia, 44 in Jashore, 32 in Chuadanga, 31 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail,15 in Meherpur and 13 in Magura under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,121 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 83 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 58 others were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12noon today.

A total of 58,738 people were, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 57,006 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,244 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
