Coronavirus: 364 die, 21,041 infected, recover 17,332 in Khulna

With detection of 99 more positive cases in all ten districts of the division on Wednesday, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients now hit 21,041 as 17,332 have been cured from the lethal virus infection.

“The recovery rate now stands at 82.37 percent ,” Assistant Director (Health) for Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS, adding that the total number of COVID-19 patients rose to 21,041 with 99 new positive cases were reported after testing 182 samples at the respective COVID-19 laboratories in Khulna division in the last 24 hours till this noon.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 29 were detected in Khulna followed by 28 in Jashore, 23 in Kushtia, seven in Jhenidah, six in Chuadanga, four in Narail and one each in Meherpur and Narail districts in the division.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the patients – 6,183 are in Khulna, 3,711 in Jashore, 3,122 in Kushtia, 1,838 in Jhenaidah, 1,377 in Chuadanga, 1,284 in Narail, 1,089 in Satkhira, 969 in Bagerhat, 879 in Magura and 589 in Meherpur, she added.

“ Of the total, 21,041 coronavirus infected persons, 2,233 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 17,332 have recovered and 364 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes in the division”, Dr. Ferdousi continued.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Rasheda Sultana said the number of total fatalities stands to 364 in the division with one death was reported to Narail on Wednesday.

The district-wise break-up of the fatalities- 93 are in Khulna, 65 in Kushtia, 43 in Jashore, 32 in Chuadanga, 31 in Jhenaidah, 30 in Satkhira, 22 in Bagerhat, 20 in Narail and 15 in Meherpur under the division.

“The average casualty rate among all 21,041 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.73 percent in the division,” she mentioned.

On the other hand, a total of 82 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while others 38 were released in all ten districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 12 this noon.

A total of 58,738 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 56,923 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period and 2,233 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.
