BCB waits for Sri Lanka’s reply regarding tour terms

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is waiting for the reply of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding the terms and conditions that saw the upcoming three-match Test series being jeopardized.

The BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon has already made it clear that the tour is not possible unless SLC changes the terms and conditions.

He also said in an unequivocal voice that the conditions imposed by the host country’s cricket board for the ICC Test championship were not at all desirable. Meanwhile, after Papon’s statement, Sri Lankan Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa directed the country’s cricket board to reconsider the BCB issue. BCB is waiting for this now.

The series could see the light only the SLC agreed to provide the minimum facilities what BCB wanted.

“We clarified our position yesterday and let you know what we talked about,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. “It would not be right to say anything new about this. But we are waiting for their reply.”

At first the SLC assured BCB that they would have seven-day quarantine and they can practice while in quarantine.

But in a letter sent on Monday the SLC told the BCB that visiting Bangladesh must be quarantined for 14 days to play a three-match series.

And during the quarantine, cricketers will not be able to get out of their rooms or even practice. But it was not seen in the West Indies tour of England in August and then in Pakistan’s tour of England. Both countries have practiced during quarantine.

The SLC also said that they would not give any thrower or net bowler to Bangladesh for practice. In a series as significant as the ICC Test Championship, the BCB has clearly said no to the SLC’s decision to tour the country on these terms. Now the BCB is waiting to see what the hosts reply in this regard.

BCB officials said the reply is highly likely to come tomorrow as the Sri Lankan COVID-19 taskforce will have a meeting regarding the quarantine and practice issue.
