BCB looks to play postponed series in coming months

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is looking forward to playing the series which have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic threw at least 14 international matches of Bangladesh in jeopardy.

A recent development suggests that the BCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are talking about playing their postponed series in October-November. This is the only postponed series of Bangladesh which is on the table right now. But the fate of the other series is still unknown.

“We are in contact with a few countries. We are trying to play in countries which are safe and where the coronavirus situation is better than others. But this is not confirmed yet, we are just discussing it now,” Jalal Younus, the chairman of BCB media and communication department, told the media on Wednesday.

Bangladesh was scheduled to tour New Zealand for a T20I series this year as a preparatory event before the T20 World Cup. Since the T20 World Cup is postponed, that series is uncertain now. However, Jalal Younus said the board is trying to tour New Zealand this year or early next year.

“We are trying our best to back to cricket. In continuation of this, we are providing with the facilities to the cricketers to practice alone in the major cricketing venus of the country. The first phase of the individual training programme was held before the Eid ul Adha. It will continue from next week, and I hope more cricketers will join this time,” he added.

Meanwhile, BCB celebrated the birth anniversary Sheik Kamal, the elder son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Shiekh Mujubiur Rahman, on Wednesday.

To celebrate the occasion, the board has distributed food aid to the poor people at the academy ground of BCB. And at the same time, they arranged prayers programme. BCB president Nazmul Hasan joined the programme through a video call from his residence.
