National footballers to start fitness training session Wednesday

National footballers to start fitness training session Wednesday

The national football team will start their fitness training from Wednesday at a Gazipur resort with all 36 players, called in the preliminary squad by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), expected to join.

National team coach Jamie Day is scheduled to arrive by August 16 along with newly-recruited three coaches – goalkeeper coach, fitness coach and a physio – to join the camp and go for full-pledged training session ahead of the FIFA World Cup and the Asia Cup joint qualification round matches.

Before the head coach’s joining, two local coaches – Maud Pervej Kaisar and Golam Jilani – will guide the players during fitness training following the suggestions of Jamie.

FIFA and AFC, after completing the first leg matches of the qualifying round, were forced to postpone rest of the matches due to the Covid-19 pandemic and they announced a fresh schedule later on with effect from the first week of October to November.

However, all 36 players will join in three phases starting from Wednesday with 12 players in each phase to join by 12 August while captain Jamal Bhuiyan and newly-recruited Tareque Noor might be late by a week.

While talking to The Independent, BFF General Secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag on Monday said, “Giving importance to the coronavirus issues, we have planned that players will join in phases with 12 players in each phase to maintain the proper safety measures.”

Replying to a query, Shohag said there will have all the facilities for the players’ fitness training and even they can do the outdoor training session.

“Yes, every facility is available at the resort. Alongside gym and swimming facilities, there are two football grounds too. I think the players will not face any problem from the outdoor training session,” said Shohag.

“As it will take time for Jamie’s arrival along with three new coaches to join the team, two of our local coaches -- Syed Golam Jilani and Masud Pervej -- will run the fitness training with instructions from the coach. All the coaches will have to maintain quarantine for at least one week after their arrival. So for the interim period, local coaches will guide the team,” Shohag informed.

He also informed that national captain Jamal Bhuiyan and newly-recruited player Tareque Noor will also be late in joining the session as they will have to maintain some formalities to leave their respective countries (Denmark and German).

Masud Pervej Kaiser, who has been working as the deputy of head coach Jamie Day, also informed this correspondent on Monday that players would come at the BFF office first of all to report and then they will go to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for test (corona test) and they will go to the resort upon receiving the report in the evening.
