Coronavirus cases top 6,300 in Rangpur

The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) crossed the 6,300 mark today due to continuous rise in the daily number of the lethal virus infections in recent weeks in Rangpur division.

“The number of patients rose to 6,369 with 73 new infections reported after testing 282 samples on Saturday at two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break up of the total 6,369 patients currently stands at 1,716 in Rangpur, 335 in Panchagarh, 664 in Nilphamari, 387 in Lalmonirhat, 497 in Kurigram, 389 in Thakurgaon, 1,725 in Dinajpur and 656 in Gaibandha.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients increased to 4,302 with the healing of 30 more people on Monday in the division.

“Currently, the recovery rate among the total 6,369 infected patients stands at around 67.54 percent in Rangpur division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 4,302 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,330 of Rangpur, 203 of Panchagarh, 591 of Nilphamari, 238 of Lalmonirhat, 261 of Kurigram, 248 of Thakurgaon, 1,100 of Dinajpur and 331 of Gaibandha districts.

“With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Saturday, the total number of fatalities rose to 109 in all eight districts of the division,” he said.

The district-wise break up of the total 109 fatalities stands at 31 in Rangpur, 37 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine in Nilphamari, six each in Kurigram and Thakurgaon, five in Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among all 6,369 COVID-19 patients now stands at around 1.71 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 6,369 COVID-19 patients, 206 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 4,302 patients and 109 deaths while 1,752 remaining in home isolations in the division.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan today told BSS that a total of 40,849 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Saturday, and of them, 6,369 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 15.59 percent.

“During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 197 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 508 others released in the division,” he said.

A total of 61,291 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 56,299 released and 4,992 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.

A total of 1,74,313 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) were received so far, and of those, 1,09,906 pieces distributed with a current stock of 64,407 pieces in the division.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the COVID-19 situation.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam especially called upon the common people for abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread both in urban and rural areas in the division.
