Six ‘oggyan’ party members held in Rangpur

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) arrested six members of an organised gang of inter-district ‘oggyan’ party from different places of Rangpur and Gaibandha districts in overnight raids last night.

While talking to BSS tonight, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) of RpMP Shahidullah Kowsar said a group of ‘oggyan’ party members secretly entered the house of one Mizanur Rahman at Kobaru Daktarpara area in the city on June 30 at night.

In a pre-planned manner, they mixed sedative powders with cooked foods and subsequently, the inmates took dinner and became unconscious when they looted money, ornaments and mobile phone sets from the house at night.

Later, a case was filed in this connection with the Porshuram police station of RpMP on the next day when police started investigation.

Led by Shahidullah Kowsar, a special police squad from the Porshuram police station first arrested leader of the gang Hafizar Rahman, 44, from his house in village Beradanga in Gaibandha district on Friday night.

As per confession of Hafizar, the police team arrested gang members Moshiar Rahman Bhutto, 45, his wife Lipi Begum, 26, and Khorsed Alam, 19, from Kochutari area and Rubel Mian, 32, from New Jummapara area in the city and Raju Mian, 30, from village Joydeb Monashpara in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur in the early hours of today.

“We recovered looted 11 mobile phone sets, ornaments and sedative medicines from the arrested persons,” Kowsar said, adding that they had been committing crimes in different houses by making the inmates unconscious in many areas for a long time.

The arrested persons were produced before a Rangpur court from where they were sent to the jail hajat after recording confessional statements from two of them this afternoon.
