6 Naga rebels killed by Indian forces near Myanmar border

Six National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah), popularly known as NSCN (IM), insurgents have been killed after a gunfight between the insurgents and security forces in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday morning.

Based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of the armed insurgents, Assam Rifles launched two columns in Khonsa, approximately 50 kms east of Tinsukia in Tirap district. At around 4.30 am on Saturday, an operational contact was established with the NSCN (IM) insurgents in the general area, according to INDIA TODAY.

A firefight ensued, killing six insurgents of the NSCN (IM). Security forces have recovered four AK-47 rifles, two Chinese MQ rifles, magazines, ammunition and other warlike stores from the encounter spot.

A police official said that the armed insurgents had taken shelter at a house in the area.
One Assam Rifles soldier was injured in the operation. The individual is stable and has been taken to the nearest Military Hospital.

Top officials of Arunachal Pradesh police and Assam Rifles including the Superintendent of Police of Longding district and Commandant Officer of 6 Assam Rifles have rushed to the area as the operation is still on.

Naga insurgent group NSCN (IM) is in ceasefire with the government since 1997 and in talks with the government. They are likely to sign final peace agreement soon.

NSCN (IM) is active in Nagaland and parts of Longding, Tirap, Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh and some parts of Assam.
