Mercantile Bank introduces Islamic banking services

Mercantile Bank Limited introduced shariah-based Islamic banking service named ‘TAQWA,’ the bank said in a press statement.

Morshed Alam MP, chairman of the bank, inaugurated the service through a virtual ceremony on Monday.

Initially, the bank will offer this special service through Islamic banking windows in its country wide ten branches besides their regular conventional banking service, Alam said.

The Islamic banking service commencing branches are-- Main Branch, Dhanmondi Branch and Uttara Branch in Dhaka, Agrabad Branch in Chattogram, Barishal Branch, Feni Branch, Chowmuhani Branch and Banglabazar Branch in Noakhali, Faridganj Branch in Chandpur and  Damudya Branch in Shariatpur.

Akram Hossain, vice chairman, Anwarul Haque, chairman of executive committee, Rahmat Ullah, chairman of Audit Committee, AKM Shaheed Reza, chairman of Mercantile Bank Foundation, ASM Feroz  Alam, M Amanullah, Mosharref Hossain and MA Khan Belal, directors of the bank, also were connected to the virtual inauguration ceremony.

Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, managing director and CEO, delivered his welcome speech.  The ceremony was live on the official Facebook page of Mercantile Bank Limited, the statement said.
