Online platform Education for Nation launched

An online platform titled “Education for Nation” has been launched aimed at assisting the educational institutions to conduct online classes initially for the secondary and higher secondary students.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the platform at Dhaka Residential Model College through a videoconferencing with the college Principal Brigadier General Kazi Shameem Farhad in the chair, said a press release.

The “Innovation Design and Entrepreneurship Academy (iDEA) project” of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) under the ICT Division will provide technical support to conduct the online classes.

Addressing the virtual function, Palak said the ICT Division has been working in collaboration with the country’s education, health, and food management since the country fell in crisis due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

As part of this, platforms titled “Food for Nation”, “Health for Nation” and “Education for Nation” have been formed to facilitate the people with online services in food, heath and education sectors, he added.

“Due to the corona situation, the epidemic that we are experiencing like other nations of the globe may not be short-lived but it may be long. So, we have no alternative to use information technology (IT) to adapt to this new changing world,” the ICT Division state minister said.

Noting that the technology is the only driving force, especially in all areas of business, including education and health, Palak said, “We want to spread the model of this online education system from every city to every village and from the center to every place”.

“Not only during the coronavirus situation but also in the future, we will continue our efforts to make the education system equally gifted to all without any discrimination using modern technology,” he added.

ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Executive Director Parthapratim Deb and iDEA Project’s Director Syed Mojibul Huq also addressed the virtual function.

From now, classes of ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades will be taken online while each class will be continued for 60 minutes with 45 minutes of teaching and the remaining 15 minutes of question and answer (Q&A) sessions.

Students will be provided with the routine of the classes and the necessary materials in advance. The Startup Bangladesh-iDEA project is also going to start creating an online platform to deliver the same service through online management and with the help of startups in different educational institutions across the country centering on the education sector.
