Musician Azad Rahman passes away

Noted singer and composer Azad Rahman passed away at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the city this afternoon. He was 76.

“Azad Rahman breathed his last at 4.00 today,” said a spokesperson of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association.

He left behind his wife, three daughters, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Azad, also music director and filmmaker, used to practice khayal, a modern genre of Hindustani classical music, along with other classical music.

Born on January 1 in 1944 in Bardhaman, India, Azad Rahman obtained his bachelor (Honours) degree in Khayal from Rabindra Bharati University.

He started his career as a music director with working in the Kolkata Bangla movie Miss Priyonboda.

The noted musician received several awards, including National Film Award in the best music director and singer category.
