Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday warned that no irregularity would be tolerated in relief distribution during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
“I want to say clearly that no irregularity would be tolerated in relief distribution. Those who will play foul with the relief goods being distributed among the poor and destitute people will be handled with an iron hand,” he told a press conference on contemporary issues at his government residence here.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, urged all to work together rising above their different political thoughts to address the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
There is no alternative to following the 31-point instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the guidelines of World Health Organization (WHO) to win the fight against the lethal virus, he said. He urged the affluent people to stand by the poor and workless people during ongoing crisis.
The AL general secretary also called upon the AL leaders and workers to intensify their efforts to this end.
Noting that a vested quarter is spreading rumours over COVID-19, he said: “We must build a strong resistance against rumour mongers and we should remain alert in this regard”.
Expressing gratitude to doctors, health practitioners, nurses and hospital staff for playing their responsible roles in addressing the coronavirus crisis, Quader said: “We should remember that if we do not stay at homes and maintain social distancing, we will welcome our jeopardy”.
About the Padma Bridge Project, the road transport and bridges minister said despite the prevailing adverse situation, the 28th pillar of the bridge was installed on the pillar number 20 and 21 today.
“Now 4.2 kilometers of the bridge out of 6.15 are visible,” he said, adding “To install the remaining 13 pillars, both local and foreign engineers, workers and consultants have been working amid the adverse situation, and on behalf of the Sheikh Hasina’s government, I thank them”.
