Independent TV journo tests positive for coronavirus
A journalist of Independent TV, a private television channel in the country, was diagnosed with novel coronavirus on Thursday.

He is being kept at institutional isolation after testing positive for COVID-19, said Independent TV authorities.

After member tested positive for coronavirus the Independent TV authorities identified 47 of its staff members who came in contact with the infected person and asked them to go into home quarantine, Independent TV Editor-in-Chief and CEO M Shamsur Rahman said in a Facebook post and video message yesterday.

“This is to inform everyone that one of our colleagues in Independent Television has been tested positive for COVID 19. He is in institutional quarantine now and recovering fast,” he said.

"He informed us that he wouldn't be able to attend office on Mar 26 as he was showing symptoms. Since then, he had been in self-isolation before calling the IEDCR hotline. His sample was subsequently collected and unfortunately the result came back positive," Shamsur Rahman said.

“The television channel is in constant touch with IEDCR regarding the matter,” said the TV station CEO adding that it has also prepared a list of the 47 colleagues who came in contact with the journalist.

"They have all been sent into self-isolation. Counting the days from Mar 26, if they don't show symptoms in the next five days, then it would mean they're not infected," he said.

“Journalists and media professionals everywhere are exposed to professional hazard. With the crisis looming large, I pray and hope Allah will save us all. Please stay indoors and follow government directives,” M Shamsur Rahman said.

The video-journalist had a fever on Mar 26 and stopped attending office. The IEDCR collected sample from him on Apr 1 and he was hospitalised after the results came out positive on Thursday.
